Conditionals คือประโยค "ถ้า...ก็..." ที่บอกว่า ถ้าเกิดอะไรขึ้น ผลที่ตามมาคืออะไร — ระดับความจริงต่างกัน ทำให้ต้องใช้ tense ต่างกัน
Type 0 — ความจริงสากล
If you heat water to 100°C, it boils.
→ ถ้าให้ความร้อนน้ำถึง 100°C มันจะเดือด (ความจริงตลอดกาล)
If you don't sleep, you feel tired.
If it rains, the ground gets wet.
Plants die if they don't get water.
Type 1 — ความเป็นไปได้จริง (อนาคต)
If it rains tomorrow, I will stay home.
→ ถ้าฝนตกพรุ่งนี้ (เป็นไปได้) ผมจะอยู่บ้าน
If you study hard, you will pass the exam.
If she calls, I will answer immediately.
I won't go if it rains.
→ ลำดับสลับได้ ถ้า main clause ขึ้นก่อน ไม่ต้องใส่ comma
Type 2 — สมมติ (ไม่น่าเป็นจริงตอนนี้)
If I were rich, I would travel the world.
→ ถ้าผมรวย (แต่ตอนนี้ไม่ได้รวย) ผมจะเที่ยวทั่วโลก
If she had more time, she would learn piano.
If I were you, I wouldn't do that.
What would you do if you won the lottery?
💡 ระวัง: If + Type 2 ใช้ "were" สำหรับทุก subject ไม่ใช่ "was"
✅ "If I were you..." · ✅ "If she were here..." (formal/correct English)
"was" ก็ฟังดูโอเคในภาษาพูดทั่วไป แต่ were ถูกต้องกว่า
Type 3 — สมมติในอดีต (เปลี่ยนไม่ได้แล้ว)
If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam.
→ ถ้าผมเรียนหนักกว่านี้ (แต่ไม่ได้เรียน) ผมก็คงสอบผ่านแล้ว (เสียดาย)
If she had left earlier, she wouldn't have missed the flight.
If I hadn't eaten so much, I wouldn't have felt sick.

UNLESS — "ถ้าไม่..."
unless = if not (ถ้าไม่...) — ใช้แทน "if...not" ได้เลย ส่วนใหญ่ใช้กับ Type 1
Unless you hurry, you'll be late.
→ ถ้าคุณไม่รีบ คุณจะสาย (= If you don't hurry, you'll be late.)
I won't go unless you come with me.
→ ผมจะไม่ไป ถ้าคุณไม่ไปด้วย (= ...if you don't come with me.)
ความผิดพลาดที่พบบ่อย
ระบุ type และเติมคำให้ถูกต้อง:
1. If I ___ (be) taller, I would play basketball. (Type?)
2. If you ___ (touch) fire, you ___ (burn). (Type?)
3. If she ___ (study) more, she ___ (pass) the test. (Type 1)
4. If he ___ (leave) earlier, he ___ (catch) the bus. (Type 3)
