กฎง่ายๆ: ประโยคบวก = some · ประโยคปฏิเสธและคำถาม = any
ข้อยกเว้น: ใช้ some ในคำถามเวลาเสนอหรือขอสิ่งของ เช่น "Would you like some coffee?"

There aren't any people outside. ✓ (ปฏิเสธ)
Are there any people outside? ✓ (คำถาม)

ข้อผิดพลาดที่คนไทยทำบ่อย
"There are a book on the table." → There is a book on the table. (a book = เอกพจน์ ใช้ is)
"Is there any milk?" (ถามซื้อให้คนอื่น) — ถูกต้อง แต่ถ้าเสนอใช้ some: "Would you like some milk?" ✓
"There have many cars." → There are many cars. (ใช้ there are ไม่ใช่ there have)
"There isn't no food." → There isn't any food. (double negative)
